1 inch scale working dollhouse double hung window

Hello Howard,
I am leaving your email online so others can reply to you personally if they want to as well.
Your question is an interesting one. They do not seem to have patterns or plans for these small windows that I have seen. However is that a problem? No I really do not feel that it is. You can come up with your very own pattern with a little imagination and planning.
Here's what I would suggest you do. Buy one of the working type windows you see. They are not very expensive. Then after you have the window, carefully take it apart. Piece by dainty piece. See what it consists of. Study every tiny detail. Here is one that works that you can study:
https://www.at-the-doll-house.com/Double-Hung-Window
Count the pieces. Number and outline all parts. Also make plenty of notes as to how it all fits together. That is a very important step to do. If you forget how it all fits then you are sort of sunk and will have to start over. And you would not want to do that. So your notes are important here in this step.
Then for whatever size window you are aiming at, calculate the measurements for each part and begin cutting out your window. You can find a scale calculator here:
https://www.at-the-doll-house.com/scale-calculator.html
For 1:12 scale every inch equals one foot.
For Playscale every two inches equals one foot.
For 1/2 scale every half inch equals one foot.
(Remember with this calculator you can start from the small measurements and work up to the larger scales too.)
Plus there is an excellent tutorial all about double hung windows for dollhouses on the Greenleaf Dollhouse site. At this URL:
http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/dollhouse_news/AUG2008/Dollhouse-Windows.html
They suggest completely finishing any wall you will be installing this window in. Plus they seem to install the window in their dollhouse wall before placing the wall on the dollhouse model. So you will not be struggling to paint and finish areas that may be hard to reach. Or are naturally going to be cramped.
You will have to copy and paste any urls presented on this page Howard. The best of success to you as you develop your own plans.

However,I'm not sure how to go about it with the first problem being what size asthetically would I need for this size house? What materials would I use and the questions go on and on. If anyone has ideas, tips suggestions or have done a project like this I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

I am just beginning to build miniatures. The book " How to build a dollhouse under 100.00" by Patricia Maidment says her pattern is in 1/4"=1" sccale. I would like to build in the larger 1:12 scale. I cannot find anything about 1/4"=1" scale so i'm not sure how to convert her patterns to 1:12. Can you help me with the conversion? Was it a simple misprint and she meant 1:48th? i just can't visualize 1/4=1inch. thank you

I have a 8" floor to ceiling kitchen. What scale size kitchen set should I buy? I bought a dollhouse from a thrift store. I believe it was homemade because it has different ceiling heights for the kitchen as well as the second floor. Second floor is 7inches and 1st floor is 9 inches. The 1:12 looks too big. I'm new to this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for a software program that is easy to use, not super complicated, cheap or preferably free, or at least a trial. I am very new to the Dollhouse world, but have been fascinated w/ tiny things, like my Bonsai trees, and "TINY" collection of anything miniature. Do you have any suggestions for some beginner level software?
I am doing custom ones as I am doing some modern twists on the houses I plan on building, like working flat screen TV's, working home theaters, etc.. I need to design in wire chases or voids to run wire, electrical, and possibly working plumbing!!
I thank you for your time and look forward from hearing from you in the near future and your site and it's info.

One of the best softwares on the market for designing dollhouses is Chief Architect Home Designer Essentials 2016. This software seems to be for house design but the principles are the same. Very easy to follow with a very knowledgeable staff ready to help with any question you may have. They have a channel on YouTube and lots of ideas for using their software on their website.
You have to recalculate your measurements but just figure them out using our handy dollhouse measurement tool called Model Scale Calculator. Also you can find a link to this software at the bottom of any page on our dollhouse website.
Thanks for stopping by with your comments Doug.
